Richard Pryor was born in Peoria, Illinois, and was raised in a brothel by his prostitute mother and his pimp father. Borrowing heavily from Bill Cosby, Pryor's act originally started with wholesome, sanitized routines. Eventually Pryor found his voice taking on issues of racism, segregation and oppression.
