Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron's other band gets immediate "cool" points for partly naming this album's opening splash of blazing day-glo ("Wimple Witch") after the great, obscure British 1960s combo Wimple Winch. But the best thing about Wellwater Conspiracy (who also include ex-Monster Magnet guitarist John McBain) is that they upgrade the fragrant eccentricity of vintage U.K. flower power -- spaced riffing, spiked-afternoon-tea lyrics -- with modern muscle.
